The panel discussion focused around enhancing the lives of veterans by promoting their well-being and success post-military service.

"Veterans have unique skills that are valuable in the workplace, but those skills may be underutilized if employers do not have military experience," said Bob Wiedower, VP of Sales Development and Military Programs at Combined Insurance. "That can be challenging to veterans as they seek employment after their military service. At Combined, we take pride in providing meaningful employment and supporting them while they are here. Additionally, we give back in both time and donations to support not only our employees, but our military veteran community as well."

A veteran himself, Bob Wiedower moderated the panel discussion and contributed his firsthand experience and knowledge of veteran employment. The panelists were Robert Mikyska, State Director, U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service, Justin Miller, Community Outreach Coordinator at Rush University Medical Center, Chris Dillon, Diversity and Inclusion Consultant at Walgreens Boots Alliance and Weston Polaski, President of SVA Illinois and Co-Founder Victor Tech Inc.

The event began with an introduction from Lindsay Gill, Executive Director, Business Development, at Luke's Wings. Gill highlighted the strong relationship between Combined Insurance and Luke's Wings, and the support the company provides to their mission through sponsorships and sizeable donations as part of an internal sales program called 'Operation GiveBack.'

"We are grateful for the support of companies like Combined Insurance who are dedicated to seeking and hiring as many veterans as possible," said Gill. "The Veteran Summit and Panel Discussion was a demonstration of Combined's commitment and thought leadership in the discussion around enhancing the lives of veterans through their career success post-military service."

Prior to the panel discussion, Lindsay Gill introduced the keynote speaker, Edward Schrank. A former U.S. Marine and cancer survivor, Schrank spent 14 years in the military and is now a successful small business owner.
