NEW YORK--May 24, 2012--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The ACE Group today announced several executive appointments in its financial and professional lines insurance businesses globally.
Timothy O’Donnell has been appointed Executive Vice President, Financial Lines, for the company’s international insurance operations, effective June 1, 2012. In this role, Mr. O’Donnell will have responsibility for ACE’s directors and officers liability, financial institutions, errors and omissions, and surety businesses in 50 countries throughout the Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions. He will be based in London and will report to David Furby, Division President, Commercial Property & Casualty, ACE Overseas General. Mr. O’Donnell succeeds David Robinson, who was recently named Division President, UK & Ireland.
Scott Meyer has been named Division President, Professional Risk, ACE USA. Mr. Meyer will have executive oversight of ACE USA’s management and professional liability lines of business, which span public, private, not-for-profit, and financial institutions directors and officers coverages and its errors and omissions and privacy and network security product suite. Based in New York, Mr. Meyer will report to Christopher Maleno, Chief Operating Officer, ACE USA.
Stephen Haney has been appointed Division President, Surety, ACE USA, and Chief Underwriting Officer, Global Surety. In this newly created role, Mr. Haney will be responsible for the company’s commercial and contract surety operations in the U.S. and for overseeing the underwriting of ACE’s surety offerings globally. Based in Philadelphia, he will report to Mr. Maleno for U.S. operations and to Mr. O’Donnell for international operations.
Nicholas Small has been appointed Chief Underwriting Officer, International Financial Lines. In this newly created role, he will be responsible for developing new products, setting underwriting guidelines and authorities, assisting with underwriting strategy and coordinating portfolio management for ACE’s international financial lines business. He will be based in London and will report to Mr. O’Donnell.

With more than 30 years of insurance industry experience, Mr. O’Donnell joined ACE in 2003 and was named Division President, Professional Lines, North America, in 2011, after serving as Division President, Professional Risk, ACE USA. Previously, he held senior leadership positions at American International Group (AIG) and served in senior underwriting roles at several national and global carriers and brokers. Mr. O’Donnell holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Boston College.
Mr. Meyer joined ACE in 2008 as Executive Vice President, Professional Risk, ACE USA, and has more than 20 years of underwriting and risk management experience in professional lines. He previously held several senior leadership positions at AIG, co-founded a managing general agent specializing in transactional risk insurance products and served as Director, Financial Services Group, at Aon. Mr. Meyer holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from New York University.
With more than 20 years in the insurance industry, Mr. Haney joined ACE in 1998 and most recently served as Executive Vice President & Chief Underwriting Officer, Surety, ACE USA. He previously held various regional underwriting, sales and marketing positions with The Chubb Group and with Cologne Re in Germany and Leon Levy & Associates in Philadelphia. Mr. Haney holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in International Business from European University in The Hague in the Netherlands. He was recently elected Vice Chair of the Board of the Surety & Fidelity Association of America.
Mr. Small has more than 30 years of industry experience and has served as International Financial Institutions Underwriting Manager since establishing the London-based crime and financial institutions practice in 1998 for CIGNA’s P&C operations, which ACE later acquired. Previously, he held positions of increasing responsibility in financial and professional lines with AIG and a number of brokerage firms. Mr. Small holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Law from the University of Wales.
