HAMILTON, BERMUDA, September 6, 2019. Chubb Bermuda has appointed James Paugh as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chubb Bermuda Insurance Limited, effective September 1, 2019. In this role, Mr. Paugh will direct all legal and regulatory activities within Chubb Bermuda and Chubb Bermuda International.
Mr. Paugh’s responsibilities include overseeing the company’s legal matters and the execution of its compliance functions. His duties include providing legal and strategic advice to senior executives and underwriters regarding Chubb Bermuda’s industry- leading property, excess casualty, and financial lines coverages; ensuring compliance with applicable rules and regulations; and providing advice on risk management issues.
Based in Bermuda, Mr. Paugh will report to Judy Gonsalves, Vice President of Chubb Group and Division President, Chubb Bermuda. “We are pleased to announce Jim's promotion to General Counsel in recognition of his many valuable contributions to the company, and we look forward to his continued support and leadership as part of the Chubb Bermuda management team” said Ms. Gonsalves.
Mr. Paugh has served the company in Hamilton, Bermuda and Dublin, Ireland. Before his position as Deputy General Counsel, he served in a variety of roles in Ireland as Managing Counsel & Head of Claims for Chubb Bermuda International Insurance Ireland DAC, as well as the Legal and Compliance Manager for Chubb European Group’s Irish branch. In these roles, he provided legal advice across property, casualty, A&H, and personal lines, as well as transactional and regulatory support. Mr. Paugh first joined the Company as Assistant Vice President, Claims for ACE Bermuda Insurance Ltd., in Hamilton, Bermuda.
Before joining Chubb, Mr. Paugh worked in private practice at O’Melveny & Myers, L.L.P. in New York City, representing individuals and corporations in civil litigation, criminal inquiries, and regulatory investigations. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University and earned his Juris Doctor with honors from The George Washington University Law School.
