ACE Charitable Foundation and ACE Limited General Counsel Establish Rule of Law Fellowship at Penn Law School

NEW YORK--July 11, 2012--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The ACE Group today announced that the ACE Charitable Foundation and ACE Limited General Counsel Robert Cusumano have committed funding to create a fellowship in international rule of law and human rights at the University of Pennsylvania Law School (Penn Law). Through the new ACE Rule of Law Fellowship, Penn Law graduates will have an opportunity to work at Human Rights First, a preeminent legal advocacy organization, on innovative projects in rule of law and global human rights.

“We are thrilled to work with Penn Law School on such a groundbreaking program. With so many countries now embarking on journeys to democracy and civil cultures, the rule of law has never been more relevant or important,” said Mr. Cusumano, a Penn Law alumnus. “It is our belief that this fellowship will position Penn Law students to learn first-hand about the hard work involved in adapting law to different cultures, and vice versa. This new program is also a wonderful complement to the work already done by the ACE Rule of Law Fund in so many places around the world.”

In 2008, Mr. Cusumano established the ACE Rule of Law Fund, a unique partnership among the ACE Group, its legal staff and several of its partner law firms that supports projects to enhance the rule of law around the world. Since its founding, the Fund has made grants of approximately $500,000 to support a diverse array of rule of law projects, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Michael A. Fitts, Dean of Penn Law, commented: “ACE’s law department and charitable foundation have shown real prescience in supporting the rule of law, culminating now in this program of study and career development for Penn Law students. This gift makes it possible for our students to hone their skills and embark on careers in an area of law critical to international development. It also allows Penn Law to chart new territory in supporting rule of law education in the legal academy.”

The ACE Charitable Foundation assists less fortunate individuals and communities around the world in achieving and sustaining healthy lives. Through a combination of Foundation grants and employee volunteer initiatives, ACE focuses its support in the areas of education, the environment, and poverty and health.
